The Democratic Rally (DISY) and the Cyprus Peace and Dialogue Center (CPDC) co-organized a round table discussion entitled 'Women for Peace - Initiatives to promote dialogue and cooperation” on Friday 18 March 2024.
With the participation of Annita Demetriou, the President of DISY and Meltem Onurkan Samani, the Director of the CPDC, more than twenty prominent Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot women from different areas of expertise gathered up at the Home for Cooperation, at the Buffer Zone, to discuss the ways how can women overcome challenges and lead the way for peace-building.
Underlining the need of women’s involvement in the process, not just in grassroots but in decision making levels, participants emphasized the necessity of women’s involvement in all processes including the negotiation mechanism.
Sharing several ideas to foster dialogue and collaboration between the two communities, they also stressed that women’s perspective must be heard and valued.
